FLASH WEBSITE (a preview)

Here's a preview of the flash website I am developing. The goal is to practice Flash design and to try my hand at creating user interfaces. I'm also excited about the concept I came up with for the site--it would be awesome if it became a working site one day. The concept is this: to facilitate feedback between artists through a simple group feedback tool.

As a past design-student, I miss getting feedback from others in class, and I've heard the same complaint from other artists. I was inspired by Reddit.com, which is so simple, yet so effective in narrowing down the massive amounts of information on the internet. Aesthetique would be like the artists version of reddit, allowing the content to be user-generated and user-sorted.  The site would  move the most up-voted art projects to the top of the list.

The shots are too small to view the detail, so I recommend clicking the images to enlarge them.

I created this home page to be inspirational and give ideas of the sort of things one might post to the site for critique. I borrowed illustrators and photographers work from the web.
The gallery pages have a short description of what is included. The humbnails give a preview, then enlarge when the image is clicked.
The first level of expansion only shows the art, title, artist, and description. It is designed so you can vote before viewing the results, so as not to be biased.
The comments and results reveal in an animated drop-down. The goal is for the percentages to dynamically change as the viewer votes.
Just for kicks, here is the collage I made that inspired the idea for this website. I come up with ideas really well by creating things manually, so collage was how this one began.

More to come soon!

SYMPOSIUM PROGRAM

I created  this program (this is just a sampling of pages) for the bi-annual gathering of scientists at the L.S. Skaggs Biomedical Research Symposium. This year it was held at UCSD. There were more than 160 attendees, from organizations and universities around the country. Through this project, I learned about developing and printing duotone images successfully. We did the entire document using one Pantone color. I worked with a project manager and the printer remotely, and successfully delivered the programs ahead of schedule.

WEBSITE

As a personal project, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and learn how to program, while also creating a portfolio for my photography. I am proud to say this site is 100% my work: each thumbnail, every layout decision, and every line of code. Please, go peruse the site HERE.
In the process, I became more familiar with HTML5, CSS, and some Javascript. The best thing about this site is that it is not Flash (like my old site) so it can be viewed on an iPhone! Sweet!

CD DESIGN

David came to me with his cd itself already designed, and asked me to create a cover that would compliment the design and reflect his musical style as well. We were both pleased with the final result.

SPONSOR GUIDE

I created this guide to communicate the vision and mission and impact of Insulindependence to a major medical corporation, so they could understand why they should sponsor this stellar organization.

TRAVEL JOURNALS

These are expedition journals I created for non-profit, Insulindependence, whose vision is to revolutionize diabetes management . The goal for the journals is to initiate discussions surrounding the many topics of a diabetic lifestyle, from eating, to exercise to dating, as well as to teach participants to see correlations between blood glucose control and a variety of factors. Each journal includes graph pages, where participants can track and graph their blood glucose as well as insulin, medication and other factors. Some pages are simply designed to allow the participants room to vent their frustrations about diabetes, and reflect on what may make it difficult.
Due to their popularity with participants, I have created four versions of the journal for various trips (although only 2 are represented here).

POSTER

I made this poster to promote a show at the local cafe. Both photographs and design are my material.
